Early beginnings of Credit Cards
At the beginning of 20th century, department stores and oil companies issued their proprietary cards in accordance with Stan Sienkiewicz. These cards were accepted just at the business, which issued the card and also in restricted locations. When current credit cards are mostly utilized for convenience, such forerunner cards were developed as a way of making customer loyalty and making better customer service,.
The original bank card that was called “Charg-It,” was presented in the year 1946 by banker John Biggins in Brooklyn, in accordance with MasterCard. When a client used it for his buy, the bill was sent to Biggins’ bank. This bank compensated the merchant and got pay from the client. Purchases could just be made in the vicinity, and cardholders of Charg-It had to obtain an account at the Biggins’ bank. In the year 1951, the original bank credit card emerged in Franklin National Bank in New York City for loan clients. It could be utilized only by the holders of bank’s account only.
The Diners Club Card was considered the following step in the development of credit cards. In accordance with the Diners Club’s representative, the story started in the year 1949 when a person named Frank McNamara took a business dinner in Major’s Cabin Grill in New York City. When the bill came, he realized that he had forgotten his pocketbook. He managed to discover his way out of such a case. McNamara with Ralph Schneider, his partner, came back to Major’s Cabin Grill later on and paid the whole bill with a small card.
